On January 10, 2017, 2016 Annual Report of Journal of Cancer Metastasis and Treatment (JCMT) was held. As Managing Editor, Lisa Huang presented an overall review of the development of the journal over the past year to all members of the Editorial Office. A summary of the key events of what has a very busy year seen follows.

In the year 2016, under the leadership of our Editor-in-Chief, Lucio Miele, thanks to the joint efforts of all the Editorial Board members and editorial staff, and with the great support of reviewers, readers and authors, JCMT turned out a fruitful one.

In 2016, JCMT published 67 articles, involving three Special Issues. Ten articles were published in Editorial Board member Dr. Michael A. Grotzer's Special Issue on "Brain Tumor Cell Invasion and Metastasis: Anatomical, Biological and Clinical Considerations"; four in Editorial Board member Prof. Ira-Ida Skvortsova's Special Issue on "Cancer Stem Cells"; and 11 papers in Editorial Board member Prof. Rossana Berardi's Special Issue on "Neuroendocrine Tumors."

Compared to 2015, the journal's peer review is stricter and more scientific while the quality of articles published in 2016 has also improved significantly. JCMT has continuously attracted attention from scholars, readers, and authors in the field of global cancer metastasis and treatment. Sixty-seven articles were read 78,871 times on the website of OAE Publishing Inc. in 2016 (as of December 31, 2016).

In 2016, JCMT cooperated positively with the 43rd International Society of Oncology and Biomarkers, the Biennial International Meeting of the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology, and another 15 large international academic conferences. Concurrently, JCMT also actively participated in the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), MRS, CSCO, and other international academic conferences to widely promote the journal, and we obtained high praise and encouragement from experts.

Furthermore, JCMT has been included in 14 databases: CAS, EBSCO, JournalTOCs, Google Scholar, JournalGuide, Root Indexing, CNKI, Wanfang Data, the Bielefeld Academic Search Engine(BASE), SHERPA/RoMEO, Eurasian Scientific Journal Index, DRJI, Open J-Gate, and ResearchBib. Consequently, as its global influence increases, JCMT is becoming known to more experts and readers. By the end of December 2016, JCMT's readership had been distributed across 150 countries around the world. The following figure presents data showing that the journal has won readers' acceptance and support especially in China, the United States, India, Italy, and Britain, as well as in several other countries.

We are even more excited to report that, as of December 31, in 2016, JCMT had got 150 Editorial Board members (EBMs). 2016 has been particularly noteworthy because Prof. Dai-Ming Fan, the Vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an Academician, and Professor Yan Sun, also an Academician and Vice-President of the Asian Clinical Oncology Society, joined JCMT as honorary Editors-in-Chief. We firmly believe that with the support of our Editors-in-Chief and all our EBMs, 2017 will be even more successful than 2016.

The editorial team would like to take this opportunity to thank the Editor-in-Chief, all Editorial Board members, reviewers, readers, and authors of the journal for their hard work and continuing support over the past year. 2016 was a year full of opportunities and challenges in which we moved forward unceasingly. From the detailed work of processing each manuscript to the more visible task of attending meetings to publicize the journal, our team always insists on maintaining the highest standards at an international level, the high quality of articles, and a rigorous peer-review process, and adhering to international ethical standards and international publishing specifications. The bedrock of our philosophy is publishing high-quality articles, and we are well on the way to achieving that goal. In 2017, we will continue to work steadily to achieve still better growth and development of JCMT.

Respectfully submitted by Lisa Huang, Managing Editor.
