Cover Picture: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been attracting attention as a novel liquid biopsy resource. In this issue, Takaaki Tamura et al. discuss the challenges and prospects of EV-based liquid biopsy compared to other biological resources (e.g., circulating tumor cells and cell-free DNA) and summarize the novel studies that have identified the remarkable potential of EVs as a cancer biomarker. The cover image illustrates the metaphor of the Japanese capsule toy “GACHAPON” to represent the diagnostic process in EV-based liquid biopsy. A researcher is opening a toy capsule derived from a humanoid capsule toy machine and monitoring its status. This capsule, namely extracellular vesicle, is a treasure trove of biological information.
