Special Issue Introduction

World-wide, bladder cancer (BC) ranks tenth in terms of incidence and is increasing at a steady rate. It is a heterogeneous disease with widely varying prognoses. Although several attempts are being made to improve understanding of these types of tumors in order to reduce or eliminate the risk of recurrence and progression, bladder cancer remains one of the most expensive cancers to treat during one's lifetime. The high recurrence rate, repeated surgeries, and long-term cystoscopy monitoring and treatment make an extra effort necessary. The diagnosis and prediction of prognosis for BC can be challenging because of the subjective nature of pathological evaluation. Researchers are therefore invited to present the latest advancements in bladder cancer research, from basic research to clinical application.

There are a number of potential topics to consider in this Special Issue, including but not limited to:
1. Novel agents for unresponsive patients to classical-based chemotherapy;
2. Novel technologies or clinical applications related to monitoring of recurrence;
3. Minimally invasive diagnostic approaches;
4. Development of the novel drugs or strategies targeted to treat bladder cancer;
5. Patients' stratification methods;
6. Urinary and peripheral blood biomarkers;
7. Surgical treatment: from the endoscopy to the robotic radical cystectomy;
8. Neoadjuvant immunotherapy;
9. Adverse effects to the BC therapies;
10. The role of immune cells and the heterogeneity of immune microenvironment;
11. Quality of life improvement;
12. The use of Artificial intelligence for improving the accuracy of bladder cancer diagnosis and prediction of prognosis.
