Special Issue Introduction

Cancer is one of the most serious health challenges globally, and traditional treatment methods such as surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, while offering some relief to patients, still face serious side effects and limitations in treatment effectiveness. The incidence of cancer is continuously rising worldwide, posing a significant public health challenge. Despite advancements in medical technology, there is a need to strengthen early screening, precision treatment, and comprehensive preventive measures to alleviate the burden on cancer patients and improve treatment outcomes.

In the rapidly developing field of medicine today, nanotechnology has emerged as a remarkable frontier technology. The application of nanomaterials has brought about a series of exciting breakthroughs in cancer treatment. Nanomaterials, owing to their unique size effects and surface properties, are playing an increasingly crucial role in the field of oncology. Their application in cancer treatment encompasses nanodrug delivery systems, hyperthermia therapy, photodynamic therapy, and their combination with immunotherapy.

The continuous innovation and development of nanotechnology will provide cancer patients with more precise, efficient, and safer treatment options, opening up new prospects in cancer therapy. However, it is important to note that the application of nanomaterials in cancer treatment is still in the research and development stage, necessitating large-scale clinical trials and safety assessments to ensure efficacy and safety. Additionally, different types of tumors may respond differently and exhibit varied adaptability to nanomaterial treatments, thus requiring personalized therapeutic strategies for different tumor types. As technology continues to evolve, the application of nanomaterials in cancer treatment holds the promise of bringing cancer patients more treatment choices and hope.
