Interview with Prof. Daiming Fan - Honorary Editor-in-Chief of JCMT
On April 29, 2025, Journal of Cancer Metastasis and Treatment (JCMT) conducted an interview with Prof. Daiming Fan, Honorary Editor-in-Chief of JCMT and President of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) at the 2025 Chinese Academic Conference on Tumor Biomarker (CCTB) in Chongqing, China.
Prof. Fan shared his visionary insights on how integrative medicine and multidisciplinary collaboration are shaping the next era of cancer research. He discussed the opportunities and challenges in translating tumor biomarker discoveries from the laboratory to clinical practice, and how innovation, institutional reform, and education can accelerate the progress of precision oncology in China. In addition, he offered valuable advice for young scientists committed to advancing translational cancer research.

Q1: Prof. Fan, in recent years you have been actively promoting the concept of integrative medicine, emphasizing multidisciplinary collaboration in the fight against cancer. At this CCTB conference, how do you foresee integrative medical thinking guiding the future direction of tumor biomarker research?
Q2: As President of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, you have noted that "the translational application of tumor biomarkers is the bottleneck of precision medicine." In your opinion, what institutional or technological barriers most urgently need to be overcome in China to advance the translation of tumor biomarker research from basic studies to clinical application?
Q3: As an outstanding scientist and a passionate advocate for medical education, what key advice would you like to share with the promising young researchers participating in the conference?

Prof. Daiming Fan, President of China Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, International Member of the United States and French National Academy of Medicine, President of World Association for Integrative Oncology (WAIO), Council Member and Secretary General of Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology, Past Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Past President of The Fourth Military Medical University, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China.
Prof. Fan has long been dedicated to both basic and clinical research in digestive diseases and has made pioneering contributions to theoretical research and clinical practice in Holistic Integrative Medicine. He has obtained a lot of national grants in China, including the State High-Tech Development Plan (863 Program), the National Basic Research Program (973 Program), and the Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NFSC). His achievements have been recognized with multiple National Science and Technology Progress Awards (first, second, and third prizes) and a third prize of the National Technology Invention Award. He was also the first awardee of the Prize "French National Academy of Medicine-Servier".
Prof. Fan has published extensively in gastroenterology and oncology, including authoritative clinical and academic works. As first or corresponding author, he has published more than 800 papers in international journals, such as Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Nature Clinical Practice Oncology, The Lancet, and Gut. He also serves as Editor or Associate Editor for 12 international medical journals.
