Figure 2. Origin of ITH. Upon certain oncogenic hits, some cells in the normal tissues undergo genetic alterations to generate cancer cells. ITH arises through clonal evolution in which cells are dictated by transcriptomic and epigenetic factors and the tumor microenvironment.
