Cover Picture: Blue energy harvesting based on ion flow obtained from the sea and river provides a clean, stable and continuous electric output, which highly depends on the ion selective membranes (ISMs) conducting single ions. In recent years, the ISMs constructed based on two-dimensional (2D) nanofluidics demonstrate promising application prospects in blue energy harvesting due to their facile fabrication, excellent ion selectivity and high ion flux. This review summarizes the latest research advances in salinity gradient-driven and pressure-driven blue energy harvesting, and discusses the existing challenges of 2D nanofluidic membranes towards blue energy harvesting applications, which is anticipated to provide a new insight for the development of high-performance blue energy harvesting systems based on 2D nanofluidics.
