Special Issue Introduction

In our ever-changing world, the demand for displays that can seamlessly integrate into our daily lives while accommodating the rigors of our environments has become increasingly paramount. To bridge the gap between reality and virtuality in our everyday existence, the rising demand for omnipresent displays necessitates the realization of arbitrary form factors that can transcend the physical limitations of display technology. Flexible and stretchable display technology stands at the forefront as a transformative innovation, offering a unique blend of versatility and durability. These displays, unbounded by conventional form factors and visual confines, can adapt to unconventional surfaces, surmount spatial limitations, and merge into textiles, wearables, and even skins. As we transition into the era of free-form environments, flexible and stretchable display technology promises to reshape industries, from consumer electronics to healthcare, entertainment to education, automotive mobiles, and beyond.

We warmly welcome all contributors and experts who have enthusiastically joined us in this specialized exploration of the "Recent Advances in Flexible and Stretchable Display Technology". This dedicated Special Issue aims to provide an in-depth investigation of flexible and stretchable display technology, covering materials innovation, advancements in manufacturing processes, novel device design, and their diverse applications. By introducing the latest breakthroughs and challenges in this field, our goal is to offer a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art developments and, therefore, inspire scientific insight for further innovation.

We cordially invite readers to explore the promising discoveries and innovations in flexible and stretchable display technology through this collection. From the fundamental science behind soft materials to the practical implementation of stretchable devices in our daily lives, this Special Issue can be one of the valuable resources to grasp the interdisciplinary nature of this field and its profound impact on our future.
