Special Topic Introduction

Smart hydrogel-based micro/nanoscale delivery systems are rapidly emerging as versatile platforms for next-generation therapeutic applications. Owing to their high biocompatibility, tunable mechanical properties, and stimuli-responsive behaviors, hydrogels enable precise control over drug loading, transport, and release. Recent advances have further demonstrated that hydrogels can be seamlessly integrated with flexible electronics, soft sensors, and bioelectronic interfaces, enabling real-time physiological monitoring, feedback-regulated drug dosing, and localized therapeutic actuation. In parallel, progress in micro/nanoengineering has enhanced the stability, spatial precision, and multifunctionality of hydrogel-based delivery systems. This Special Issue aims to highlight cutting-edge research on smart hydrogel design, micro/nanoscale delivery mechanisms, integration with flexible and bioelectronic systems, biosensing-drug delivery coupling, and translational approaches. Contributions that bridge materials science, micro/nanoengineering, flexible electronics, and biomedical engineering are particularly encouraged, with the goal of advancing intelligent therapeutic technologies.
