Special Topic Introduction

The emergence of soft electronics has reshaped how electronic systems interface with living organisms and machines, enabling seamless integration through thin, flexible, and adaptive designs. This evolution in form factors not only introduces mechanical softness and conformability but also promotes material simplification and accelerated physical degradation, thereby improving biocompatibility and reducing environmental burden. Building upon these advances, transient and biodegradable soft electronics have emerged as a transformative class of technologies capable of advanced sensing, actuation, and communication, with devices designed to biodegrade or dissolve naturally after their functional lifetime. In the field of soft robotics, these technologies support the development of adaptive and eco-friendly systems inspired by biological architectures. In biomedical and sustainable applications, they promise temporary yet high-performance devices for diagnostics, therapy, and postoperative monitoring. This Special Issue highlights the latest advances in materials design, fabrication strategies, and system-level integration of transient and biodegradable soft electronics and robots toward sustainable and biocompatible technologies for future applications.

Topics of interest:

Transient and Biodegradable Soft Electronic Materials;

Fabrication Strategies for Fully Degradable and Eco-Responsive Soft Devices;
