Special Topic Introduction

Obesity and metabolic disorders pose serious global health burdens. They originate not merely from single-organ lesions, but from immune-metabolic crosstalk and intertissue communication. Dysfunction of these integrated networks triggers chronic inflammation, insulin resistance and progressive organ injury. This Special Issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research on these integrated systems, providing a platform to advance understanding of how immunometabolism and inter-organ crosstalk drive obesity and metabolic diseases, and how such insights may translate into therapeutic strategies.

 

Objectives

● To highlight recent advances in immunometabolic mechanisms underlying obesity and metabolic diseases;

● To explore how organs communicate and coordinate metabolic responses under physiological and pathological conditions;

● To evaluate the role of immune cells in regulating metabolism across different tissues;

● To discuss emerging therapeutic strategies targeting immunometabolic and inter-organ signaling pathways.

 

Topics Covered

● Molecular and cellular mechanisms of immune cells and inflammatory mediators in metabolic diseases;

● Inter-organ crosstalk involving adipose tissue, liver, muscle, gut, brain,and pancreas in metabolic regulation;

● Clinical outcomes and challenges in managing metabolic diseases with multi-organ involvement;

● Prevention and treatment strategies, including lifestyle interventions, and pharmacotherapyin obesity and related metabolic disorders;

● Application of multi-omics technologies in immunometabolism and multi-organ communication research;

● The impact of sex and genderdifferences on immunometabolism or multi-organ regulation.

 

 

Target Audience

This issue is intended for immunologists, endocrinologists, hepatologists, gastroenterologists, neuroendocrinologists, and clinician-scientists investigating the pathophysiology of obesity and metabolic diseases.
