Special Issue Introduction
The fields of hepatobiliary oncology and transplant oncology are undergoing rapid evolution. Evolving indications for transplant, new technologies for locoregional therapy and/or surveillance all warrant ongoing summation and evaluation. Almost daily, new evidence emerges in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Such evidence is often multidisciplinary, requiring expertise in three, four, or even five specialties to properly manage patients with this complex condition.
Our goal is to summarize the most recent advances for providers in the field.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Machine Perfusion as a Strategy in Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma;
2. Evolving Selection Criteria for Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Time to Expand our Exception Points;
3. External Beam Radiation in the Management of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Review;
4. Radiotherapy and Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Review of Literature and Future Directions;
5. Surgical Approaches to Hepatocellular Carcinoma;
6. Circulating Tumor DNA: An Emerging Tool for Hepatocellular Carcinoma;
7. Combination Therapies for Hepatocellular Carcinoma;
8. Advances in the Management of Comorbid Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Cirrhosis;
9. Pre- and Post-Transplant Management of HCC Patients: A Transplant Coordinators Perspective;
