Special Issue Introduction
The phenomenon of chemotherapy resistance is multifaceted, involving intricate interactions between cancer cells, the tumor microenvironment, and host factors. Mechanisms of resistance can vary widely among different cancer types and even within individual tumors, complicating treatment strategies and necessitating a nuanced approach to overcome resistance. In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the urgent need to address chemotherapy resistance through innovative research and clinical interventions. This Special Issue aims to explore new insights and strategies for overcoming chemotherapy resistance, bringing together leading experts and emerging investigators to share their latest findings and perspectives.
Proposed topics include, but are not limited to:
1. Tumor Microenvironment-Mediated Chemotherapy Resistance: Investigating the Role of Stromal Cells and Immune Cells;
2. Intratumoral Heterogeneity and Chemotherapy Resistance: Understanding Variations in Resistance Mechanisms within Individual Tumors;
3. Host Factors Influencing Chemotherapy Response: Genetic Polymorphisms, Microbiome, and Patient Characteristics;
4. Targeting Signaling Pathways and Molecular Mechanisms of Chemotherapy Resistance in Specific Cancer Types;
5. Emerging Therapeutic Approaches to Overcome Chemotherapy Resistance: Immunotherapy, Targeted Therapy, and Combination Strategies;
6. Experimental Models and Drug Screening Platforms: Discussing the utility of advanced experimental models and high-throughput drug screening platforms for studying chemotherapy resistance mechanisms and testing novel therapeutic agents;
etc.
