Warmly Welcome Professor Jianguo Xu to Serve as the Honorary Editor-in-Chief of One Health & Implementation Research

We are so delighted and honored to announce that One Health & Implementation Research (OHIR) has invited Prof. Jianguo Xu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, to served as the Honorary Editor-in-Chief of the journal in April 2023.

About Prof. Jianguo Xu:

Prof. Xu is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of the Chinese Association of Microbiology, Director of State Key Laboratory of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), and Director of the Institute of Public Health of Nankai University in China.

Prof. Xu's projects were financed by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1996 and he won the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 1997 and the Medical Pharmacy Award of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Science and Progress in 2001. He was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2011.

Prof. Xu and his team have been on the front line for a long time, engaged in the pathogenetic research of new, sudden and unexplained infectious disease outbreaks. They preside over the completion of the pathogenetic investigation of several infectious disease outbreaks and events with great impact in China, including a multi-bacterial synergistic gangrene in a child in Shandong province in 1995; a stellate Nocardia infection in a hospital in Sichuan province in 1997; an E. coli O157:H7 outbreak in Suwan in 1999; an outbreak of human infection with sequence 7 Streptococcus suis in Sichuan province in 2005; discovery and naming of Neisseria meningitidis sequence group 4821 in 2005; discovery of human granulocyte anaerobes human-to-human transmission in China in 2006; imported anthrax during the Olympic Games in 2008; discovery and naming of Shigella fowleri serotype Xv in 2010; initiation of construction of PulseNet China; dealing with COVID-19 Pandemic. 

Prof. Xu has participated in several tests of COVID-19 conducted by more than 30 laboratories in 19 countries under the United Nations Secretary-General's investigation mechanism, as well as tests on identification and analysis of pathogens and infections of major infectious diseases, and has been in the first echelon of participating laboratories. Prof. Xu has been committed to the investigation of pathogens in wild animals, developed the technique of metataxonomics of bacteria, discovered and named more than ten new species of bacteria, and found that wild animals on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, such as Himalayan marmota and vulture, have a unique role in the transmission and evolution of pathogens. He has published more than 200 SCI papers. His scientific research achievements have greatly improved the scientific and technological level and the control effect of emergency treatment of infectious diseases.
