2018 was a year of change and yet a year of progress for Neuroimmunology and Neuroinflammation (NN). The annual work report meeting of NN, held on January 15, 2019 in Xi’an, China, presented the changes, progress and a general summary of the past year. It is approaching its goals and objectives with published quality articles and Special Issues, optimized website, dedicated and active Editorial Board team.

By December 31, 2018, we had published 50 articles with original articles, reviews and commentaries taking up 70%. The types of articles are tabled as below:

By January 7, 2019, the 50 published articles had been read as many as 73,194 times and downloaded 2,347 times. The review article “Interactions between neurotropic pathogens, neuroinflammatory pathways, and autophagic neural cell death” by Dr. Priyadarshi Soumyaranjan Sahu and Dr. Eunice Ter had been read more than 6,600 times and downloaded 288 times, ranking on the top among all the 50 articles.

With the enthusiasm and leadership of external neurology experts, a Special Issue plan on brain tumor has been carried out successfully and has attracted many authors to participate. In January 2018, the Special Issue "Immunotherapeutic Approaches for Treatment of Brain Tumors" was launched under the leadership of Guest Editor, Dr. Terry Lichtor from Rush University Medical Center, USA. By November, it ended up with 13 high-quality and cutting-edge articles published. In total, they had been viewed more than 14,000 times and downloaded no less than 1,200 times by January 7, 2019.

Special Issue articles Immunotherapy for pediatric brain tumors and A Concise Review of Immunotherapy for Glioblastoma (GB) have been downloaded more than 150 times since their publication in mid-2018. The remaining articles have received at least 60 downloads on average and they are increasingly growing, as the website data show.

August, 2018 was the end of the second term of the Editorial Board and also the beginning of the third one. We were happy to have Prof. Rudolph E. Tanzi from Massachusetts General Hospital, Prof. Steven J. Collins from the University of Melbourne and Dr. Kiran K. Velpula from the University of Illinois College of Medicine join the third-term Editorial Board as members.

The biggest change and progress we have made in 2018 lied in the launch of our redesigned website, which was the third time overall redesign. Thanks to the joint efforts of our technical team, Editorial Office and production team, we are now presenting our articles to readers with better visual experience in terms of font, color and layout. Users could find XML files downloadable, functional buttons handy and our journal website available at fingertips. Great appreciation goes also to our Editorial Board members and readers who have helped us improve with suggestions and feedback.

The editorial team would like to take the opportunity to thank the Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board members, reviewers, readers and authors of the Journal for their hard work and continuing support over the past year!

There's no end to progress. With our conscientiousness and pursuit for perfection, NN would bring better services to our authors and readers in 2019 and the years to come!
