Welcome Prof. Amedeo Lonardo as Editor-in-Chief of Liver Nexus
OAE's newly launched international, open access journal Liver Nexus is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Amedeo Lonardo as its Editor-in-Chief. Prof. Lonardo is a distinguished clinician-scientist and an internationally recognized expert in liver disease research, with particular expertise in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and related metabolic liver disorders.
About the Journal
Liver Nexus is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal dedicated to advancing comprehensive and integrative research across the full spectrum of liver science and medicine. The journal serves as a multidisciplinary platform connecting basic, translational, clinical, and technological innovations that address liver health, disease mechanisms, diagnostics, and therapeutics. Liver Nexus publishes high-quality original research articles, reviews, perspectives, and clinical studies that explore fundamental liver biology, disease progression, novel biomarkers, advanced imaging techniques, artificial intelligence-driven diagnostics, precision medicine, and innovative therapeutic strategies.
About Prof. Amedeo Lonardo

Prof. Amedeo Lonardo graduated in medicine with the highest honors and subsequently specialized in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy, as well as Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. He has spent his professional career at the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria of Modena and Ospedale Civile di Baggiovara in Modena, Italy, where he has served in various clinical and academic roles, including as Director of the Unit of Metabolic Syndrome, contributing substantially to the integration of metabolic and hepatology research in clinical practice. In 2017, he qualified as Full Professor of Gastroenterology and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine following the Italian University National Examination.
A globally acknowledged authority on fatty liver disorders, Prof. Lonardo has been recognized multiple times as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics, reflecting the exceptional impact of his work across biology, clinical medicine, and metabolic research. Independent specialist assessments have also ranked him among the world's top experts in the study of "fatty liver", a major global public health concern linked to obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic syndrome.
Prof. Lonardo has authored 279 scientific publications that have collectively received 19,170 citations as of October 2025, and has contributed to more than 1,000 peer review reports for international journals. His work has played a pivotal role in advancing understanding of the clinical manifestations, complications, and pathogenesis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and MASLD, including sex differences, metabolic risk factors, and liver-related cardiometabolic outcomes.
In his new role as Editor-in-Chief of Liver Nexus, Prof. Lonardo will provide strategic leadership for the journal's scientific vision and editorial development. Drawing on his deep expertise in liver pathophysiology, metabolic liver disease, and clinical translation, he will guide the journal in attracting high-quality submissions and shaping content that addresses both current challenges and emerging frontiers in hepatology.
