The World’s First Iontronics Journal, Iontronics, Successfully Holds Its Inaugural Launch Event!

On October 10, 2025, the inaugural Editorial Board Meeting and Launch Ceremony of Iontronics, the world's first journal dedicated exclusively to iontronics research, was successfully held in Beijing, China. Organized by OAE Publishing Inc., the event brought together leading scholars, editorial board members, young researchers, and publishing experts to discuss the future development of the journal and the rapidly emerging field of iontronics.

As an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of materials science, electrochemistry, electronics, energy technologies, and bio-inspired systems, iontronics has attracted increasing global attention in recent years. The launch event was attended by distinguished experts and academicians, including Prof. Di Wei, Editor-in-Chief of Iontronics and Director of the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Academician Zhonglin Wang, Honorary Editor-in-Chief of Iontronics and Director of the Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Prof. Liping Wen, Prof. Ping Yu, and Prof. Zhiping Xu, among other editorial board members and invited guests.

A key highlight of the event was the formal appointment ceremony for the journal's editorial leadership team.

Academician Zhonglin Wang was appointed Honorary Editor-in-Chief, while Prof. Di Wei officially assumed the role of Editor-in-Chief. Associate Editor appointments were presented to Prof. Liping Wen, Prof. Ping Yu, and Prof. Zhiping Xu. Additional editorial board members were also formally appointed during the ceremony.

The newly established editorial board brings together internationally recognized researchers from leading universities and research institutions. Their expertise and leadership will play a critical role in ensuring the journal's scientific quality, academic integrity, and international visibility.

Insights into Journal Development and Research Evaluation

The meeting also featured invited presentations addressing journal development and scholarly evaluation.

Mr. Shihua Liu from Clarivate shared recent developments in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and discussed strategies for sustainable journal growth. His presentation emphasized the importance of maintaining publication quality, strengthening journal branding, and adopting responsible research assessment practices.

Mr. Fuyou Chen from the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences, presented perspectives on data-driven journal evaluation and discussed opportunities and challenges facing emerging interdisciplinary journals in the global publishing landscape.

These presentations provided valuable guidance for the future development of Iontronics and stimulated productive discussions among participants.

The editorial board members engaged in extensive discussions on the future of iontronics research, emerging scientific opportunities, journal positioning, and strategies for enhancing international influence.
