European Materials Research Society
About: Founded in 1983, the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS) now boasts over 4,000 members from industry, government, academia, and research laboratories, who regularly convene to discuss the latest technological advances in functional materials.
Unlike many single-discipline professional societies, E-MRS promotes interdisciplinary exchange by providing a platform for scientists, engineers, and research managers to share knowledge. It also recognizes professional and technical excellence through awards ranging from student to senior scientist levels.
As an adhering body of the International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS), E-MRS maintains close relationships with other materials research organizations across Europe and worldwide.
Each year, E-MRS organizes, co-organizes, sponsors, or co-sponsors numerous scientific events. The centerpiece of its conference portfolio is the E-MRS Spring Meeting, held annually in May or June, featuring approximately 25 topical symposia. This flagship conference is widely regarded as the most significant of its kind in Europe, attracting around 2,500 participants each year. Following a similar model, the E-MRS Fall Meeting takes place each September, comprising 20 topical symposia. Both meetings are complemented by exhibitions showcasing products and services of interest to attendees.
Each symposium publishes its own proceedings, documenting the latest experimental and theoretical insights into material growth and properties, the application of advanced processing techniques, and the development of electronic devices that capitalize on the exceptional physical properties of functional materials.
