OAE Strengthens Academic Collaboration with Shanghai University of Electric Power
On October 24, 2024, OAE Publishing hosted an engaging academic exchange at Shanghai University of Electric Power (SUEP). The event provided students with practical insights into scientific research, academic writing, and publishing, equipping them with the skills needed to navigate challenges in submitting papers to international journals.
Prof. Jingyong Cai, Associate Professor at the School of Energy and Mechanical Engineering, welcomed the OAE team, which included Publishing Director Juanjuan Ma, Publisher Haidi Ding, and Marketing Manager Siya Liang.
Keynote Address by Prof. Jingyong Cai
Prof. Cai opened the event with a keynote address highlighting the importance of collaboration between universities and publishers. She emphasized that academic exchanges like this not only provide students with guidance on research and publication but also prepare them for future career opportunities. Prof. Cai expressed appreciation for OAE's support and underscored the value of fostering close ties between the academic and publishing communities to advance research and nurture emerging talent.

Introduction to OAE Publishing and Its Flagship Journals
Ms. Haidi Ding shared OAE Publishing's history, mission, and core focus areas, including the principles of open-access publishing. She then introduced two flagship journals particularly relevant to the attending students: Complex Engineering Systems (CES) and Soft Science (SS). CES focuses on complex engineering systems, covering areas such as system modeling and optimization, while SS explores emerging research in soft mechanical materials, including soft robotics and flexible electronics. She encouraged students to consider submitting their work, highlighting the journals as platforms to share research with a wider academic and professional audience.

Workshop on English Scientific WritingThe workshop, led by Mr. Haidi Ding, addressed common challenges in writing scientific papers in English, such as grammatical errors, unclear expressions, and repetitive sentence structures. Using real examples, she demonstrated practical strategies to improve clarity and readability. Students also learned techniques for choosing precise vocabulary, structuring sentences effectively, and ensuring logical flow—skills essential for producing high-quality academic papers.
Practical Guidance on Publishing SCI Papers
Ms. Juanjuan Ma provided students with hands-on guidance for selecting research topics and preparing submissions. Using the Web of Science (WOS) database as an example, she showed students how to track emerging trends, identify suitable topics, and analyze citation patterns to inform their research direction.

She also shared practical tips on submission strategies, including understanding journal requirements, planning around review timelines, and responding effectively to peer reviewers' feedback. Her session covered common challenges during manuscript review and strategies to enhance the chances of successful publication.

Lucky Draw and Closing RemarksTo conclude the event, a lucky draw was held to thank participants. Winners received prizes from Ms. Juanjuan Ma and Haidi Ding, celebrating both their participation and enthusiasm for academic growth.
