OAE Publishing Hosts Successful Academic Salon with Shanghai Jiao Tong University

On October 23, 2024, OAE Publishing, in collaboration with the School of Mechanical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, successfully held an in-person academic salon. The event was attended by Wang Guofeng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, and Xia Tangbin, Vice Dean. Representing OAE Publishing were Ma Juanjuan, Publishing Director; Ding Haidi, Publisher; and Liang Siya, Marketing Manager.

The salon aimed to equip students with practical skills and insights to navigate the challenges of submitting and publishing papers in SCI journals. Discussions focused on topics such as journal selection, manuscript preparation, submission strategies, and best practices in academic writing, alongside real-world examples and experiences shared by the speakers.

Marketing Manager Liang Siya Hosts the Salon

The event was hosted by Liang Siya, Marketing Manager at OAE Publishing, who warmly welcomed faculty and students and thanked them for their active participation. She outlined the purpose and agenda of the salon and encouraged students to actively engage, ask questions, and make the most of this academic exchange opportunity.

Vice Dean Xia Tangbin Delivers Opening Remarks

Xia Tangbin, Vice Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, opened the event by highlighting the salon's value in enhancing students' understanding of academic journals, improving their paper-writing skills, and creating opportunities for university-industry collaboration.

He expressed his hope that students would gain structured, practical guidance that would strengthen their research capabilities and competitiveness in publishing high-quality academic papers.

Vice Dean Xia also praised OAE Publishing for its contribution, emphasizing that such events foster closer collaboration between academia and publishing, promote broader dissemination of research, and support the development of researchers with global perspectives and innovative thinking.

Publisher Ding Haidi Introduces Journals and Provides Academic Writing Guidance

Ding Haidi, Publisher at OAE Publishing, introduced the company's mission, its role in academic publishing, and the benefits of open-access journals. She explained the importance of selecting journals that align with students' research focus.

For the mechanical engineering students in attendance, Ding highlighted OAE's journal Complex Engineering Systems (CES).

She provided an overview of CES's research scope, unique features, submission requirements, and special sections. Students gained a clear understanding of the journal's focus and emerging trends in the field, which will help guide their future research directions.

Academic Writing Language Training

Recognizing the challenges students face when writing papers in English, Ding provided targeted training on academic writing. Using case studies, she analyzed common language pitfalls and offered practical advice on vocabulary, grammar, and logical structure. Her guidance helped students improve the clarity, persuasiveness, and readability of their manuscripts, enhancing their potential academic impact.

Publishing Director Ma Juanjuan Shares Practical Submission Guidance

Ma Juanjuan, Publishing Director at OAE Publishing, presented a practical guide to submitting SCI papers, covering topic selection, journal targeting, and preparation before submission.

Using WOS as an example, Ma demonstrated how to track research trends, identify suitable topics, and develop effective submission strategies. She also emphasized ethical standards in publishing. Students actively participated, asking questions and engaging in discussion throughout the session.

Understanding the Peer Review Process

Ma explained the standard international manuscript handling process and highlighted what reviewers typically focus on. She also provided strategies for responding professionally to reviewer comments, helping students navigate peer review more effectively.

Addressing concerns about initial rejections, Ma encouraged students to view the review process as an opportunity to improve their papers and research skills, rather than as a hurdle. Her guidance strengthened students' understanding of the review process, boosted their confidence, and fostered a proactive attitude toward academic publishing.

To conclude the salon, a lucky draw was held to thank participants. Prizes were presented by Ma Juanjuan and Vice Dean Xia Tangbin, symbolically wishing the winners continued success in their academic pursuits.
