OAE Actively Participates in the 3rd “Emerging Journal Evaluation and Research Management Synergy” Conference, Discussing Academic Innovation and the Future of Journals
From July 1-4, 2025, the 3rd Emerging Journal Evaluation and Research Management Synergy Conference, hosted by the Lanxi Knowledge Innovation and Applied Research Center and co-organized by the Center for Documentation and Information of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and China Educational Publications Import & Export Corporation, was successfully held in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China. The conference, themed "Synergizing Journal Evaluation and Research Management", aimed to promote more scientific journal evaluation practices to support research management and to foster a sustainable, rational, and effective research evaluation system.
The event brought together nearly 200 experts and scholars from universities and research management departments nationwide, engaging in in-depth discussions on topics such as research integrity, open access (OA), and journal impact assessment. Lively debates and exchanges highlighted the academic community's strong focus on reforming research governance systems.
As an international publisher dedicated to promoting open science and high-quality publishing, OAE Executive President Mr. Min Fan and Publishing Director Ms. Yang Xu attended the conference. They participated in multiple thematic sessions and engaged with journal editors, research management experts, and publishing representatives, sharing OAE's practical experiences in fostering research integrity, enhancing journal quality, and optimizing evaluation mechanisms.
OAE Executive President Mr. Min Fan
During the roundtable on "Rationally Assessing 'Highly Cited' Metrics and Returning Influence to Academia", Mr. Fan delivered an important address. He reflected on OAE's ten-year journey since its founding in Los Angeles in 2015, highlighting how OAE has benchmarked against top international publishers, collaborated with leading experts, and developed a distinctive academic publishing ecosystem.
Mr. Fan emphasized the importance of clarity of purpose and long-term vision, noting that journal success is achieved through sustained investment over time. He outlined two core strategies for journal development:
1. Building strong editorial teams to cultivate high-quality content, driving positive dissemination and citations.
2. Maintaining steady growth through long-term resource investment to enhance journal standards, aiming to enter major databases in 3-5 years and achieve impact equilibrium within 8-10 years.

He also shared OAE's approach to building a sustainable academic ecosystem, combining empowerment thinking and operational thinking. Journals serve not only as platforms for research but also as bridges connecting authors, reviewers, editors, and readers. OAE organizes diverse academic activities to support knowledge transfer across academia, industry, and research, enhancing the application of scientific results.
Over the past decade, OAE has published more than 5,800 articles free of charge, waiving APC fees totaling around 16.68 million U.S. dollars. These initiatives, coupled with brand building and the careful collection of APCs to reinvest in research and academic recognition, have created a virtuous cycle of author recognition—brand development—value feedback.
Mr. Fan concluded by emphasizing that long-term journal development and influence require three coordinated efforts:
1. Consistently publishing high-quality content.
2. Enhancing brand influence.
3. Upholding publishing ethics and research integrity.
The 3rd Emerging Journal Conference concluded successfully, with attendees agreeing that research integrity is the cornerstone of academic publishing and essential for ensuring research quality and sustainability. In an evolving global academic ecosystem, strengthening research ethics and enhancing publication transparency are widely recognized priorities.
As a platform committed to high-quality publishing, OAE continues to prioritize academic quality and research integrity throughout the publishing process. By establishing dedicated integrity and quality control departments-covering manuscript screening, peer review, misconduct detection, and final evaluation-OAE ensures transparent, traceable, and reliable workflows. Furthermore, OAE actively promotes collaborative integrity efforts among authors, editors, and reviewers, aligning publishing practices with international standards. Moving forward, OAE will continue to strengthen its research integrity framework, refine standards, and cultivate a publishing culture that contributes to a sustainable, fair, and transparent academic ecosystem.
