Congratulations to 12 Editorial Board members and Authors Who Featured in the List of “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers 2021” Announced by Elsevier

On April 14, 2022, Elsevier announced the list of “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers 2021”. Twelve Editorial Board members and Corresponding Authors of Energy Materials (EM) are on the list. Hereon, all Editors of EM are extending warm congratulations to these scholars on being selected to the list.

The introductions of the 12 scholars are as follows:

Yuping Wu
Southeast University

Professor Yuping Wu, the Editor-in-Chief of EM. Yuping Wu received a Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, China, in 1997. Then he moved to Tsinghua University, Beijing, for postdoctoral research. From 1999 to 2001, he stayed at Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan as a visiting JST researcher. From 2001 to 2003, he stayed at Chemnitz University of Technology, Chemnitz, Germany, as a Humboldt Fellow. In 2003, he came back to China as a full professor in the Department of Chemistry of Fudan University, Shanghai. In 2015 He moved to Nanjing Tech University as a Distinguished Professor. In 2014 he won the“National Distinguished Youth Scientists” from the Natural Science Foundation of China. He was selected as Highly Cited Researcher by Thomson Reuters/Clarivate Analytics in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020. His current research interests lie in energy storage/conversion materials and devices such as lithium-ion batteries, supercapacitors, aqueous rechargeable lithium batteries, metal-based aqueous batteries, etc.

Bin Zhu

Professor Bin Zhu, the Co-Editor-in-Chief of EM. Bin Zhu received a Ph.D. degree from the Department of Physics, Chalmers University of Technology (Chalmers), Sweden, in 1995. After he moved to the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in 1998, he worked as a senior researcher, and as an associated professor for Ph.D. supervisor. He is now a chief scientist and professor at Southeast University. He has been recognized as the Highly Cited Researcher in China (Energy sector, Elsevier) every year since 2014. His current research interests lie in the energy conversion, especially next generation LTSOFC, PCFC (proton ceramic fuel cell), and joint fuel cell and solar fuel or battery science and technology based on semiconductor-ionics and semiconductor electrochemistry, where electron-ion coupling enhanced ionic transport, multi-charge transfer and super proton transport processes, surficial and interfacial superionic conduction, nano-redox process and nano-redox devices for high ion flux energy devices and applications.

Jia-Qi Huang

Professor Jia-Qi Huang, Associate Editor of EM. Professor Huang received his bachelor’s and Ph.D. degrees in the Department of Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2007 and 2012. He is now a professor at Advanced Research Institute for Multidisciplinary Science at Beijing Institute of Technology. He was selected as the Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analysis in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. His research interests focus on the energy chemistry in energy storage systems, especially the fundamental and application of high energy density batteries.

Yu-Guo Guo

Dr. Yu-Guo Guo is a Professor of Chemistry & Materials Science at Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS). He received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from ICCAS in 2004. He worked at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, first as a Guest Scientist and then as a Staff Scientist from 2004 to 2007. He joined ICCAS as a full professor in 2007. He has authored and co-authored more than 320 peer-reviewed papers with more than 35,000 citation times. He has filed 12 PCT patents and 108 China patents in the field of energy materials and batteries, of which 81 patents have been granted. His research focuses on electrochemical energy storage with rechargeable batteries.

Xianyou Wang

Dr. Xianyou Wang is currently the Dean of the Graduate School of Xiangtan University, Second-class professor and doctoral supervisor of Hunan Province, and Doctoral supervisor of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, professor of National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), guest editor of Int. J. Electrochem. He is the Hunan Province second grade professor and doctoral supervisor. He is the evaluation expert for the national key research and development projects, and the international cooperation project evaluation of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Since Elsevier released the Highly Cited Chinese Researchers in 2014, he has continuously been awarded in the energy field.


Zhaoyin Wen

Professor Zhaoyin Wen received his Bachelor’s degree from Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology in 1984 and received Master’s degree at Shanghai Institute of Ceramics in 1987. In 1998, he received Ph.D. degree from Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is now a Ph.D. supervisor and director of Energy Materials Research Center of the institute. Currently, his research areas include fundamental research of fast-ion conductor, engineering and application of secondary batteries based on sodium-based electrolyte, secondary lithium (ion) batteries, fusion energy related materials and applications, etc. Prof. Wen has been in charge of more than 50 research projects, such as key projects of Natural Science Foundation of China, National Important Base Research and Development Program “973” and National High Technology Research and Development Program “863” of China, Supporting Project of the China Ministry of Science and Technology of China, key and important projects from Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Committee, and numerous projects from enterprise.


Rui Xiao

Rui Xiao graduated from Xi’an Jiaotong University (Xi’an, China) in 1994 and obtained both his Bachelor’s (1997) and Ph.D. (2005) degrees from Southeast University (Nanjing, China) in Thermal Engineering. Now he is the Dean of the School of Energy and Environment at Southeast University, China. He has been a visiting professor at Kentucky University in the USA and Cambridge University in the UK. He has published over 350 peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals. His total citation is above 10,000 times. He has been authorized more than 60 International/Chinese patents. He has won the second prize of the National Science Progress Award, the first prize of the Natural Science of the Ministry of Education, the first prize of Jiangsu Science and Technology Progress Award, and the China Patent Excellence Award. Since 2014, Rui Xiao has been awarded the Highly Cited Researcher in energy field for 6 years. His current research interests lie in solid waste (including biomass), pyrolysis and gasification for fuel production, clean and low-carbon combustion of coal/biomass for power generation, energy conversion materials, energy saving, pollutant emission reduction, and CO2 capture, utilization and storage, etc.


Jiangping Tu

Jiang-ping Tu, Qiushi Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University, director of Key Laboratory of Advanced Materials and Applications for Batteries of Zhejiang Province, China, editor of Electrochimica Acta. He received his Bachelor‘s and Master’s degrees in physical metallurgy at Shanghai Jiaotong University and Zhejiang University in 1985 and 1991, respectively. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1994 from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Zhejiang University, China. From 1998 to 2000, he worked as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) research fellow at the Department of Chemical Engineering of Hiroshima University, Japan. Since 2000, he has been a full professor in School of Materials Science and Engineering at Zhejiang University. His main research interests are the fabrication and electrochemical properties of Li-ion and other rechargeable batteries. He has 523 publications cited by SCI (total citation of more than 22,600) and 119 patents, and gained six prizes in science and technology of government. He is a 2015-2018 Clarivate Analytics (Thomson Reuters) Highly Cited Researcher and a 2014-2018 Elsevier Most Cited Researcher.

He served as vice president of Shanghai Normal University in 1987. Since January 2011, he has served as president of Shanghai University of Electric Power. He has won honorary titles such as "National Outstanding Youth Fund". He served as associate editor of Appl. Catal. B and ACS Appl. Mater. Interface, Catal. Commun., Current Green Chem. He is also a member of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Ministry of Education, chairman of Shanghai Rare Earth Society, Deputy Director of China Special Committee on Photocatalysis, director of Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education, etc. He has published more than 170 SCI papers, among which 6 are ESI papers.

Shicheng Yan

Yan Shicheng graduated with his doctorate in 2007 from Northwest Polytechnical University. In November 2007, he did his postdoctoral research at School of Physics, Nanjing University, with a focus on condensed state physics, and he also did photocatalytic materials research at the Ecomaterials and Renewable Energy Research Center of Nanjing University. In November 2010, he joined the faculty of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Nanjing University, and was promoted to associate professor in December 2011 and a full professor in 2018. Professor Yan focuses on the research of solar energy conversion and environmental application. He and his team have published more than 100 papers in international journals such as Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Adv. Funct. Mater. and Energy Environ. Sci. These articles have been cited more than 5,000 times, 8 of them each cited more than 100 times, and 1 cited more than 1,000 times.

Zhiqiang Niu

Zhiqiang Niu is a Professor at College of Chemistry, Nankai University. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2010 under the supervision of Prof. Sishen Xie. He has been granted National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars (2018) and the Tianjin Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2018). He has published more than 90 peer-reviewed journal papers and 3 book chapters. His research interests include nanocarbon materials & advanced energy storage devices.

Sishen Xie

Xie Sishen (S.S.Xie), physicist. Graduated from the Department of Physics of Peking University in 1965, Xie Sishen obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1983 from the institute of physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is now a professor and the director of Vacuum Physics Open Laboratory of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The research interests of Prof. Xie include phase diagrams, structures and properties in the rare earth alloys; synthesis, phase relationship, structural determination and property of High Tc superconductors; nano-scale materials, especially carbon nanotube and other one-dimensional materials. He is the author and co-author of 140 papers published in academic journals. He has published three papers in Science and Nature and several academic papers on Phys. Rev. Letts., Phys.Rev.B, Appl.Phys. Letts., Adv. Mater. etc. The paper has been cited more than 3500 times.
