Medical degree by Faculty of Medicine, Lisbon University, in 2002. PhD degree by Faculty of Medicine, Lisbon University, in 2015, as part of the 4th edition of Program for Advanced Medical Education. The thesis focused on the role of caspase-2 and apoptosis in the pathogenesis of obesity and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), and it was done in Duke’s University, NC, USA, at Anna Mae Diehl’s lab (2013-2015). Gastroenterology Graduate Assistant since 2020. Member of the Editorial Board (co-editor) for the Portuguese Journal of Gastroenterology from 2017-2021. Investigator in several randomized clinical trials regarding end-stage liver disease (Hypo-CAT, SPARe-1) and MAFLD (REGENERATE, RESOLVE-IT). She was also a partner of the industry-academic consortium CARBALIFE regarding Yaq-001 on NAFLD (coordinated by Prof. Rajiv Jalan), and of the NAFLD European Registry (coordinated by Dr. Quentin Mark Anstee).
