On April 11, 2021, we  pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Tong-Yi Zhang as the Editor-in-Chief for the new journal Journal of Materials Informatics (https://www.oaepublish.com/jmi, JMI), who is from Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China and Shanghai University, Shanghai, China.

Editor-in-Chief   Professor Tongyi Zhang

Professor Zhang is the Founding Dean of the Materials Genome Institute, Shanghai University, Shanghai, China, and the Founding Director of the Materials Genome Division in the Chinese Materials Research Society (CMRS), China. He is one of the active scholars and scientists who promote and foster the developments of Materials Genome Engineering and Materials/Mechanics Informatics, which integrate data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning with materials science and engineering, and mechanics science and engineering, respectively. He was a vice president of the International Congress on Fracture (ICF) during 2013-2017 and the Honorary President of the Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection (CSCP). He became ICF Fellow in 2013, Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences in 2012, Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011, Senior Research Fellow of Croucher Foundation, Hong Kong, in 2003, and Fellow of ASM International, USA, in 2001. The other honors include 2018 Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the HLHL Foundation, Second Prize of 2007 and 1987 State Natural Science Award, China, 1988 National Award for Young Scientists, China, etc.

Professor Zhang indicated, "We firmly believe that, the new journal JMI, as a truly interdisciplinary publication, will contribute to the advancement of materials genome and informatics as a new tool in the box of materials R&D, and serve as the footstone for the future development of this interdisciplinary field".

JMI aims to advance and accelerate the pace of materials discovery, design, and deployment by synergistically combining theory, experiment, computation, and artificial intelligence in a tightly integrated and smart manner. The journal synthesizes foundational physics, chemistry, mathematics, mechanics, computer science and engineering, and materials science and engineering with emerging experiments, computations, and real-world applications, for interdisciplinary researchers and those who are new to the field.

We are confident to make JMI a high-level journal with the joint efforts of Professor Zhang and all Editorial Board members as well as the Editorial Office.

We are extending our sincere welcome to Professor Zhang for serving as this new exciting role.
