Topic: Microbiomes and Women's Health: From Host Interactions to Therapeutic Opportunities

This Special Collection aims to advance our understanding of the role of microbiomes in women’s health across the lifespan, from puberty to reproductive age, pregnancy, menopause and healthy aging. It will address both mechanisms that support health maintenance and those underlying disease onset, progression and treatment. We welcome contributions ranging from population-based and epidemiological studies to mechanistic, experimental, translational, and clinical research. Topics of interest include host-microbiome interactions, microbial ecology and function, microbiome reproductive and gynecological health, pregnancy, menopause, chronic diseases, biomarkers, and microbiome-targeted interventions. The collection seeks to highlight emerging insights and therapeutic opportunities that support precision medicine and improved health outcomes for women. We welcome studies addressing biological sex, gender-related factors, and diverse populations relevant to women's health.
