Special Topic Introduction
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a critical global health threat, compromising the effectiveness of modern medical treatments and increasing the burden of infectious diseases worldwide. With antibiotics becoming less effective, bacteriophage (phage) therapy has regained attention as a promising alternative or complement to fight multidrug-resistant infections.
This Special Issue of Microbiome Research Reports aims to present recent advances in phage research, genetic engineering, and clinical use. We invite submissions that offer mechanistic, translational, or clinical insights into phage-based solutions for AMR. Studies that combine microbiology, genomics, bioengineering, and clinical practice are especially encouraged.
We welcome original research articles, reviews, and perspectives covering, but not limited to, the following areas:
● Phage discovery, characterization, and diversity;
● Phage engineering and synthetic biology;
● Phage–antibiotic synergy and combination therapies;
● Phage formulation, delivery, and pharmacokinetics;
● Phage–host and phage–microbiome interactions;
Keywords
Bacteriophage, phage therapy, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens, phage engineering, synthetic phages / engineered phages
