Special Issue Introduction
The intricate interplay between gut microbiota and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is emerging as a compelling frontier at the intersection of integrative medicine and microbiome science. This Special Issue aims to explore the bidirectional interactions between TCM-derived compounds and the gut microbiota, highlighting how herbal constituents modulate microbial composition and metabolic activity, and how gut microbes, in turn, transform and bioactivate these compounds. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and clinical studies that investigate underlying mechanisms, omics-based analyses, individualized responses, and therapeutic effects across various health conditions, including metabolic, gastrointestinal, neuroinflammatory, and immune-related disorders. By bridging traditional medical wisdom with modern microbiome research, this issue seeks to advance our understanding of how TCM may inform precision medicine through gut microbial modulation.
