Special Issue Introduction

Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS) and Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision (taTME) are innovative techniques that have gained prominence within colorectal surgery, especially for managing rectal tumors. These procedures offer potential advantages in terms of better visualization, improved access to the rectum, and reduced morbidity. Their significance becomes more pronounced in treating challenging cases, such as mid to low rectal cancers, which present complexities with traditional approaches. Examining these innovations reveals their capacity to significantly expand the scope of minimally invasive means,  directly influencing patient care, surgical practice, and the future direction of the field.
