Special Issue Introduction
Percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) was firstly established for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. Because of its minimal invasiveness, PELD has also been applied to other spinal diseases, such as spinal canal stenosis and cervical radiculopathy. On the basis of this, highly sophisticated operative skills are required when PELD is performed. Therefore, we have to establish the training system of PELD to guarantee the safety of operations. In this Special Issue, we provide not only technical aspects of PELD, but also essential anatomical knowledge, knowledge for the appropriate operative indication, and the training system. We hope this Special Issue can help to facilitate the introduction and the safe dissemination of PELD.
