Special Issue Introduction
The advancement of modern society is inherently linked to the field of advanced materials science. Material design and optimization are pivotal in the development of microelectronics devices and energy conversion applications. However, due to the inherent complexity of material structures at the nanoscale and the costs associated with high-resolution microscopy, experimental characterizations and designs are often challenging and expensive. As a result, theoretical simulations derived from structural search and design have emerged as excellent and cost-effective alternatives for the materials community. These simulations are widely employed for tasks such as predicting novel material structures, analyzing phases, and exploring applications in photocatalysis and electrocatalysis.
The primary objective of this Special Issue is to comprehensively explore recent and promising research trends in micro-nanostructure design, electronic predictions, and their applications. We invite authors to submit original research articles, reviews, and mini-reviews that contribute to the understanding of these critical areas. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
● Structure Search and Prediction: Investigating methods and tools for predicting novel material structures;
● Mechanical and Electronic Properties of Novel Materials: Exploring the mechanical and electronic characteristics of newly designed materials;
● Structural-Functional Relationships for Catalysis Applications: Examining the connections between material structure and functionality in the context of catalysis;
● Theoretical Investigations of Micro-Mechanisms in Functional Materials: Delving into the micro-mechanisms underlying the behavior of functional materials, particularly ferroic materials.
We look forward to receiving your contributions to this Special Issue in "Microstructures" where we aim to facilitate interdisciplinary discussions and share valuable insights that advance our understanding of micro-nanostructure design and its applications in various fields.
