Special Issue Introduction

The transition towards a more sustainable future demands the continuous development of materials and technology that are environmentally responsible, socially equitable, and economically viable. This Special Issue aims to gather the latest research and innovations in the development of materials and technology that can contribute to sustainability across several sectors. The Guest Editors for this Special Issue are Prof. Lianzhou Wang from the University of Queensland, Australia and Prof. Shanqing Zhang from Griffith University, Australia.

The scope of the Special Issue includes but is not limited to sustainable materials development and design, sustainable manufacturing and processing, renewable and clean energy technologies, biodegradable materials and products, industrial ecology and green chemistry, circular economy practices, and sustainable transportation methods. Contributions are welcome from researchers working in academia, industry, and government organizations, which focus on the scientific and engineering innovations that can lead to the development of materials and technology for sustainability. Manuscripts may cover the entire spectrum of material classes, from micromaterials to nanomaterials, with different structures and functionalities. This includes but is not limited to polymer composites, metals and alloys, ceramics, hybrid materials, and thin films.

In particular, this Special Issue seeks to highlight research in innovative materials and technologies that have the potential to disrupt existing practices and promote sustainability. This includes contributions to the development of scalable materials and technology solutions for reducing the carbon footprint of industries and manufacturing, novel materials for energy conservation and storage, environmental protection, and environmentally responsible waste management options.

We hope that this Special Issue will contribute to advancing the research in the field of sustainable materials and technology by bringing together leading experts and providing a platform for disseminating and exchanging knowledge on the diverse scientific and engineering approaches that can be deployed to achieve sustainability in various sectors.
