Special Topic Introduction
Developing high-performance energy materials is of great significance to developing green energy technologies and realizing carbon neutrality. As a fundamental principle in materials science, material performance is intrinsically determined by its structure. Atoms are the basic building blocks of all matter, and their spatial arrangement modes form the material microstructures. Therefore, modulating the microstructures at the atomic level can fundamentally boost the properties and performances of energy materials, even creating novel materials with new functions. An in-depth understanding of the intrinsic correlations between atomic-scale microstructures and application performances can offer important guidance for the structural optimization and rational design of advanced energy materials.
