Special Topic Introduction

With the escalating global energy crisis and the pressing demand for carbon neutrality, the development of high-performance functional materials for energy storage (e.g., batteries and supercapacitors) and catalysis (such as electrocatalysis and photocatalysis) has emerged as a critical research priority. As a core strategy for tailoring the physicochemical properties of materials, nano/microstructural engineering enables the rational design and precise regulation of multiscale structures, integrating microscale architectures (e.g., grains, phases, and porous networks) and nanoscale fine structures (like defects, interfaces, and electronic configurations). Against this backdrop, we are pleased to announce a Call for Papers for our Special Topic, which focuses on the nano/microstructural engineering of functional materials for energy storage and catalysis.

This Special Topic is dedicated to compiling the latest advances, innovative concepts, and cutting-edge research findings in this rapidly evolving field. We warmly invite researchers worldwide to submit their original research articles, review papers, and perspectives that cover, but are not limited to, innovative synthesis strategies, multiscale regulation mechanisms, structure-performance correlations, defect engineering, heterointerface construction, micro-nano hierarchical structure design, external field-assisted modulation, and computational simulation-guided optimization, with the aim of bridging the gap between structural design and practical industrial applications.

Keywords

Nano/microstructural engineering, energy storage materials, structure-performance relationships, synthesis strategies, electro/photocatalysis, catalytic mechanisms, computational simulation, sustainable energy technologies, industrial applications
