Guest Editors
Special Topic Introduction
The rapid development of advanced porous and two-dimensional (2D) materials has opened new frontiers for exploring functional microstructures at the atomic scale. Recent advances in atomic-resolution and in situ electron microscopy have enabled direct visualization of structural evolution, interfacial dynamics, and host-guest interactions in real time, offering unprecedented insights into the mechanisms governing material functionality and performance.
This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for the latest research on the design, growth, characterization, and functional applications of porous and 2D materials. Particular attention is given to studies combining atomic-scale imaging, in situ electron microscopy, and structure-property correlations to reveal how microstructural features determine the performance of materials in energy, catalysis, sensing, and electronic devices.
The research topics include (but are not limited to):
● Atomic-resolution andin situ transmission electron microscopy of functional materials;
● Atomic-scale growth mechanisms of 2Dmaterials;
● Porous materials (e.g., metal-organic frameworks(MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), etc.) and their microstructural engineering;
● Interfacesand host-guest interactions under working conditions;
● Microstructure-driven properties in electronic, catalytic, and energy-related systems.
