Special Topic Introduction
Metabolic remodeling is a fundamental hallmark of cardiovascular aging and a key driver of age-associated cardiovascular disease. The metabolic shifts reflect declining metabolic flexibility and heightened energetic stress, ultimately undermining cardiac performance and stress resilience. In this context, this Special Issue aims to highlight both clinical and preclinical studies that elucidate the mechanisms, consequences, and therapeutic implications of metabolic remodeling in cardiovascular aging and disease. We welcome original research articles and review papers addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:
● Alterations in metabolic flexibility and substrate utilization during cardiovascular aging and disease;
● Mitochondrial bioenergetic dysfunction and dysregulation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-dependent cellular processes in the aging cardiovascular system;
● Molecular regulators and signaling pathways that drive metabolic remodeling in cardiovascular aging and disease;
● Interactions among metabolic remodeling, inflammation, and oxidative stress in cardiovascular aging;
● Therapeutic and lifestyle-based strategies targeting metabolic pathways in age-related cardiovascular disease;
● Emerging technologies and multi-omics approach for studying metabolic remodeling in cardiovascular aging and disease.
