Special Topic Introduction
Fulminant myocarditis is the most severe form of acute myocarditis, characterized by sudden onset, extremely rapid progression, and a very high risk of death, often accompanied by poor long-term prognosis. Although it can affect individuals across the lifespan, including both young and older populations, its epidemiology, susceptible population, early diagnosis, specific treatments, and treatments for chronicity (i.e., chronic inflammatory cardiomyopathy) remain elusive. In this context, this Special Issue aims to publish high-quality clinical and preclinical research focused on the diagnosis, treatment strategies, clinical outcomes, and underlying mechanisms of fulminant myocarditis. We welcome both original research articles and review papers addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:
Mechanisms of fulminant myocarditis and emerging therapeutic targets, with a focus on immune, metabolic, and aging-related pathways;
● Genetic and epigenetic drivers of fulminant myocarditis and risk prediction across different age groups;
● Novel diagnostic biomarkers and pathological findings, including multi-omics and artificial intelligence-assisted approaches;
● Effective therapeutic approaches for fulminant myocarditis and inflammatory cardiomyopathy;
● Short- and long-term clinical outcomes, follow-up, and prognostic stratification across the lifespan;
● Innovative clinical case reports of fulminant myocarditis in high-risk older patients, particularly those incorporating artificial intelligence-assisted diagnostic or analytical approaches.
