Special Issue Introduction

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a major health burden – especially in regions with endemic hepatitis B – with more than 500,000 cases diagnosed annually. Unfortunately, most patients are diagnosed when their disease has progressed to a late stage and their liver reserve has become very limited, making surgical resection extremely difficult, if not impossible. The current Special Issue focuses on a wide range of practical tips. Topics involve recent advances in diagnosis by using Primovistmagnetic resonance imaging scan, control of hepatitis B virus and HCC related to the virus with the use of latest antiviral agents, minimally invasive hepatectomy by laparoscopy and with robot-assistance, and management of advanced/huge hepatoma with vascular resection and reconstruction. With contributions from all experts in the field, we will win the battle against HCC in the future.
