Special Issue Introduction

The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a critical role in the initiation, progression, and therapeutic resistance of hepatocellular carcinoma and biliary tract malignancies. Biomedical materials have emerged as promising tools to reshape the TME by targeting key components such as immune cells, angiogenesis, and the extracellular matrix. This Special Issue aims to explore both fundamental mechanisms and practical applications of biomedical materials in modulating the TME of hepatic and biliary cancers, with the goal of accelerating translational research and clinical innovation. By integrating insights from materials science, immunology, oncology, and nanotechnology, we seek to advance the development of novel therapeutic strategies and improve the efficacy of existing treatments.

Potential subtopics include but are not limited to:

1. Mechanistic studies of biomedical materials in immune microenvironment modulation;

2. Stimuli-responsive nanodrug delivery systems targeting the TME;

3. Biomaterial-drivenmetabolic reprogramming of cancer-associated fibroblasts;

4. Lipid, glucose, and amino acid metabolism modulation via biomedical platforms;

5. Biomimetic and targeted drug delivery approaches;

6. Overcoming immunotherapy resistance through TME modulation;

7. Prevention ofpostoperative recurrence using biomedical materials.

We sincerely invite researchers in related fields to contribute and collaboratively advance this cutting-edge area.

Keywords

Biomedical materials, tumor microenvironment (TME), hepato-biliary cancers, immunomodulation, metabolic reprogramming
