Special Topic Introduction
Against the urgent backdrop of accelerating climate change and binding global net-zero commitments to uphold the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 ℃ temperature target, CO2 capture and conversion stands as an indispensable, cross-cutting pillar of global decarbonization and sustainable development. This field is anchored by transformative advances in carbon capture—with a dedicated focus on direct air capture (DAC) as a scalable negative emission technology for hard-to-abate residual emissions—paired with innovative CO2 valorization to build a viable circular carbon economy.
Aligned with Greenverse Science’s core mission to publish high-impact, interdisciplinary research advancing environmental sustainability and responsible technological innovation, this special issue provides a global forum for original research, comprehensive reviews, and critical perspectives. We welcome contributions spanning novel DAC materials and low-energy capture systems, efficient CO2 catalytic conversion to high-value products, renewable energy integration, techno-economic and life-cycle assessment, and climate mitigation pathway modeling. This issue aims to accelerate lab-to-industry translation of breakthrough technologies, delivering actionable solutions to critical global climate and environmental challenges.
Keywords
CO2 capture, CO2 conversion, direct air capture.
