Special Issue Introduction
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) serve as important mediators of intercellular communication and have emerged as promising tools in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, due to their unique biological properties. This Special Issue highlights recent advances in EV research, encompassing EVs derived from mammalian cells, bacteria, plants, organoids, and other sources. We aim to explore innovative applications of EVs in identifying disease biomarkers, developing targeted drug delivery systems, and elucidating therapeutic mechanisms.
We welcome original research articles, reviews, and methodological papers addressing topics such as:
1. Applications of EVs in organoid and organ-on-a-chip models;
2. Integration of artificial intelligence and big data analytics to elucidate EV composition and function;
3. Development of non-invasive diagnostic tools through analysis of EV-associated DNA, RNA, and proteins;
4. Engineering of EV-based drug delivery systems to improve therapeutic precision and efficacy;
5. Roles of EVs in immunotherapy, including modulation of immune responses and enhancement of antitumor activity;
6. Mechanisms and therapeutic potential of EVs in bone, neurological, dermatological, ophthalmic, and cardiovascular diseases.
