Special Issue Introduction
Since the discovery of graphene, there has been significant progress in the research of two-dimensional (2D) materials. These materials, including graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides, MXenes, boron nitride, layered metal oxides and hydroxides, 2D MOFs and COFs, and phosphorene, have been receiving a great deal of attention due to their molecular thickness, high degree of anisotropy, large specific surface area, and tunable physicochemical properties, which are dependent on their structure, composition, and functionalization.
In recent years, 2D materials and their composites have been widely employed in the development of efficient energy generation, storage, and conversion systems, such as batteries, supercapacitors, solar cells, fuel cells, solar fuel generation cells, thermoelectric devices, and energy harvesting devices. This Special Issue collects manuscripts about experimental demonstrations of exceptional performance, as well as theoretical results predicting the outstanding potential of some emerging 2D materials in energy-related applications. The issue covers 2D materials for essential scientific inquiry, technological progress, insightful material analysis, enlightening theoretical exploration, new practical applications, and influential energy-focused data scrutiny. Research Articles and Communications, Mini/Reviews, and Perspectives with originality are welcome to be published. Overall, this Special Issue will serve as a valuable resource for readers interested in 2D materials and their potential applications in the field of energy.
