Special Topic Introduction
The rapid depletion of fossil fuels and growing environmental concerns have spurred intensive research into sustainable energy technologies. Biomass, as an abundant, renewable, and carbon-neutral resource, offers a versatile platform for constructing advanced functional materials.
This Special Issue focuses on the rational design, synthesis, and application of biomass-derived materials in emerging energy-related fields, including triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), photocatalysis, rechargeable batteries, and supercapacitors. We invite contributions that explore the conversion of natural polymers (cellulose, lignin, chitin, etc.) and bio-waste into high-performance components—such as triboelectric layers, photoelectrodes, electrocatalysts, separators, electrode materials, and electrolytes—with emphasis on structure–property relationships, interfacial engineering, and device performance.
Mechanistic studies, scalable fabrication strategies, and life-cycle assessments are also welcome. By bridging fundamental materials science with practical energy devices, this collection aims to highlight the unique advantages of biomass-based materials in addressing the trade-offs between efficiency, durability, and sustainability.
We encourage original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that push the boundaries of green materials for next-generation energy systems.
