Special Topic Introduction

Photoelectric and optoelectronic materials are essential for next-generation energy, information, and communication technologies due to their ability to convert, transport, and manipulate photons and charge carriers. They have enabled significant advances in photovoltaics, light-emitting devices, photodetectors, optical communications, imaging, sensing, and quantum technologies.

Recent progress in materials such as halide perovskites, organic semiconductors, quantum dots, two-dimensional materials, metal oxides, and hybrid nanostructures has broadened the scope of optoelectronic applications. Advances in interfacial engineering, defect control, and scalable fabrication have further improved device efficiency, stability, and flexibility, accelerating the transition from fundamental research to practical implementation. Growing demand for sustainable technologies has also encouraged the development of environmentally friendly materials and cost-effective manufacturing methods.

This Special Issue, “Photoelectric and Optoelectronic Materials”, welcomes original research articles, reviews, and perspectives on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of advanced optoelectronic materials. Topics include photovoltaics, LEDs, photodetectors, lasers, integrated photonics, flexible electronics, photocatalysis, and multifunctional optoelectronic systems. The issue aims to promote interdisciplinary research and inspire innovative concepts for high-performance, sustainable, and intelligent optoelectronic technologies.

Keywords

Solar cells and photovoltaics, halide perovskites, photoelectric and optoelectronic materials, photocatalysis for water splitting and CO₂ conversion, light-emitting diodes (LEDs), photodetectors, integrated photonics, flexible electronics, interfacial engineering, sustainable optoelectronics
