Special Topic Introduction

Emerging functional materials play a pivotal role in advancing green energy technologies by enabling efficient energy harvesting, storage, and conversion. In recent years, significant advances have been made in the design and synthesis of novel functional materials (such as two-dimensional materials, metal-organic frameworks, and advanced nanostructured materials), demonstrating remarkable potential across various applications. Importantly, research in this field has progressed beyond fundamental laboratory research toward performance validation in prototype devices, thereby accelerating the transition from scientific discovery to practical deployment and commercialization. This Special Issue features contributions that explore emerging functional materials for green energy applications from multiple perspectives, including materials synthesis, mechanism analysis, device design, and performance evaluation. We welcome full research articles, communications, perspectives, and reviews spanning chemistry, physics, materials science, and mechanical engineering. Interdisciplinary contributions that bridge these disciplines are also encouraged.
