Special Issue Introduction

The transition to a sustainable energy and chemical sector demands the replacement of fossil-fuel-dependent processes with electrochemical alternatives driven by renewable electricity. This Special Issue is dedicated to the development of advanced catalytic materials for green electrocatalysis and electrosynthesis. We invite contributions that not only advance catalyst design for established reactions such as water splitting, CO2 reduction, and nitrogen fixation but also pioneer the exploration of novel electrochemical reactions for sustainable synthesis. This includes the production of green fuels and chemicals, organic electrosynthesis, and the upgrading of biomass-derived platform molecules.

 

We are particularly interested in research on innovative catalytic materials, such as single-atom and nanostructured catalysts, intermetallics, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), and molecular complexes, that break new ground in activity, selectivity, and stability. This issue aims to showcase cutting-edge work spanning catalyst synthesis, advanced characterization (especially in-situ/operando techniques), mechanistic understanding studies, and the development of efficient and scalable systems. Our goal is to provide a platform to discuss the challenges and opportunities in deploying these advanced catalysts to forge a greener energy and chemical landscape.
