Special Issue Introduction

Minimally invasive esophageal cancer surgery is a rapidly growing field, with robotic-assisted surgery being one of the latest advancements. Robotic-assisted surgery allows for greater precision and maneuverability in tight spaces, making it an attractive option for complex esophageal surgeries. The use of robotic technology in esophageal cancer surgery has been shown to result in shorter hospital stays, reduced blood loss, and lower complication rates compared to traditional open surgery. However, there are still some challenges to be addressed, such as the need for specialized training, limited tactile feedback, and difficulties in adaptation to each patient's anatomy.

This Special Issue aims to explore the latest advancements in robotic-assisted minimally invasive esophageal cancer surgery, including new techniques, outcomes, and challenges. The issue will publish original research articles, review articles, and case reports that cover various aspects of robotic-assisted minimally invasive esophageal cancer surgery. The goal is to provide readers with a comprehensive overview of the current state of the field and to identify areas for future research and development. From minimally invasive surgery, robotic-assisted surgery was born. It is believed that current robotic tele-manipulation will similarly result in further advancements utilizing artificial intelligence and ultimately lead to more autonomous decisions and actions in surgery. It is hoped that this Special Issue will act as a guide as to how we get there.
