About the Journal
Renewable Energy Innovation is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary, open access journal focused on renewable and sustainable energy, including solar, wind, bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, energy storage, smart grids and microgrids, green hydrogen, distributed energy resources (DERs), power-to-X technologies, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in energy systems. The journal aims to publish high-quality research that accelerates global decarbonization pathways and supports a just and sustainable energy transition.
Amid escalating climate challenges and rising global energy demands, Renewable Energy Innovation spotlights pioneering studies in energy generation, storage, and distribution technologies. About Prof. Daniel M. Kammen

Prof. Daniel M. Kammen currently serves as a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA (2025-present). Previously, he was a Distinguished Professor of Energy at the University of California, Berkeley, USA, with joint appointments in the Energy and Resources Group, the Goldman School of Public Policy, and the Department of Nuclear Engineering. He is the Founding Director of the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (RAEL), co-Director of the Berkeley Institute of the Environment, and former Director of the Transportation Sustainability Research Center at Berkeley.
Prof. Kammen has authored or co-authored more than 300 peer-reviewed journal publications, 12 books, and over 50 technical reports. He has served as coordinating lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which received the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. Beyond academia, he has held roles including Chief Technical Specialist for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at World Bank Group (2010-2011), Science & Climate Envoy for the U.S. State Department, and advisor to multiple governments and agencies worldwide.
Prof. Kammen's research spans technical, social, and policy dimensions of clean energy, from decentralized mini-grids and smart energy systems for underserved communities, to decarbonization of power systems, clean transportation, climate justice, and equitable energy access. His holistic approach - combining scientific rigor, sustainability, and fairness - aligns closely with the mission of Renewable Energy Innovation to publish transformative work at the intersection of technology, society, and climate resilience.
