A Landmark Achievement: Founding Editor-in-Chief Prof. Wen-Xiong Wang of Pollutants Dynamics Receives the SETAC Founders Award as the First Chinese Recipient
We are delighted to announce that Prof. Wen-Xiong Wang, Founding Editor-in-Chief of Pollutants Dynamics, Chair Professor of Environmental Toxicology and TUYF Chair Professor of Oceanography at the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong, has received the SETAC Founders Award, the highest individual honor presented by the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC). Prof. Wang is the first Chinese scholar to receive this prestigious distinction.
The SETAC Founders Award represents the Society's highest honor for lifetime achievement and is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious honors in environmental science. Comparable in stature to leading lifetime achievement awards conferred by organizations such as the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the award recognizes scientists whose outstanding scholarly achievements have had a profound and lasting impact on the advancement of environmental science.
Since the award was established in 1980, Prof. Wen-Xiong Wang has become the first Chinese scholar to receive this honor, underscoring his exceptional academic achievements and international influence in environmental toxicology, marine environmental science, and pollutant research.
Mr. Bart Bosveld, Global Executive Director of SETAC, praised Prof. Wang's scientific contributions and his global impact on the environmental science community. He noted: "Prof. Wang has made foundational contributions to the ecotoxicology of metals in marine systems and to emerging areas such as microplastics. His research has not only advanced scientific understanding in these fields, but has also provided important scientific evidence supporting the development of water quality guidelines in Hong Kong."

Prof. Wang is currently Chair Professor of Environmental Toxicology and TUYF Chair Professor of Oceanography at the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong. In 2002, he received the Overseas Distinguished Young Scholars Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
He has been elected a Fellow of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), a Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and a Fellow of the Academy of Marine Engineering and Technology. He has also been consistently included among Stanford University's World's Top 2% Scientists.
Prof. Wang has led major research projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, including projects under the Senior Research Fellow Scheme. His research focuses on the environmental behavior of pollutants, ecological risk assessment, and marine environmental health, with particular emphasis on the ecotoxicology of metals in marine systems, nanomaterials, microplastics, and emerging contaminants.
He has published more than 650 SCI-indexed papers, which have received over 37,000 citations, and has an H-index of 99, according to Google Scholar. His research has had a significant international impact in the field of environmental science.
