OAE's Nano-Bio Convergence, a brand-new international open access journal focusing on the application of nanoscale science and engineering in life sciences and medicine, is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Thomas J. Webster as its Editor-in-Chief.

With more than 25 years of experience in academia and industry, Prof. Webster has seamlessly combined pioneering scientific research with entrepreneurial insight, helping shape the future of nanomedicine and biomaterials. His research focuses on engineering nanophase materials–including surfaces, particles, coatings, and implantable nanostructures–to enhance tissue regeneration, reduce inflammation, and prevent bacterial infections without relying on antibiotics. His group has also developed implantable nanosensors capable of real-time monitoring and therapeutic response, opening transformative pathways for regenerative medicine, orthopedics, and anti-infective technologies.

Prof. Webster has authored over 1,350 peer-reviewed publications, holds an H-index exceeding 119 (Scopus), and possesses more than 40 issued patents, making him one of the most prolific scientists in nanomedicine today. Several of his patented technologies have been successfully commercialized, including Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved nano-textured implants now used by tens of thousands of patients worldwide. His commitment to translational research is further reflected in his collaborations with industry, leadership roles at multiple international research centers, and mentorship of students around the globe.

Beyond his research accomplishments, Prof. Webster is well known for his editorial and academic leadership. He is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Nanomedicine, one of the most influential open access journals in the field. He has also served in leading scientific societies, including as President of the U.S. Society for Biomaterials, and is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), and the National Academy of Inventors. His work has attracted broad media attention from outlets such as NBC, ABC, Fox News, the Discovery Channel, and National Geographic, highlighting the societal impact of his research.

Prof. Webster's achievements have been recognized with numerous international honors, including the Acta Biomaterialia Silver Medal, the Wenzhou 580 Award, and recognition under the Zhejiang Thousand Talents Program, along with multiple honorary professorships. His leadership continues to influence the global development of nanotechnology in medicine.

Nano-Bio Convergence proudly welcomes Prof. Thomas J. Webster as Editor-in-Chief. We are confident that his vision and leadership will guide the journal to become an influential platform that advances nanoscale science and engineering in life sciences and medicine.
