2025 Annual Report of Journal of Environmental Exposure Assessment

The year 2025 marked a period of steady development for Journal of Environmental Exposure Assessment (JEEA; ISSN 2771-5949), with continued growth in publication output, editorial capacity, and international engagement. As an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal, JEEA remains committed to publishing rigorous research on human exposure to chemical (both organic and inorganic), biological, and physical environmental factors, while strengthening editorial standards, expanding global collaboration, and promoting academic exchange.

1. Indexing and Metrics

In 2025, JEEA was successfully indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). In June 2025, the journal received its CiteScore (Scopus) of 2.6, ranking in Q2 in the categories of Public Health, Environmental and Occupational Health, and Environmental Science (miscellaneous). The CiteScoreTracker reached 3.9 by the end of 2025, reflecting continued citation growth.

2. Publications and Readership

In 2025, JEEA published 42 articles, representing a 61.5% increase from the 26 articles published in 2024. The publication types included 30 research articles (72%), 3 reviews (7%), 7 perspectives (17%), and 2 other article types (4%). These papers were authored by 297 researchers from 35 countries and regions, demonstrating the journal's expanding global authorship and international reach.

3. Special Issues

In 2025, JEEA expanded its topical coverage through 10 Special Issues, led by Guest Editors from institutions including University of Birmingham (Birmingham, United Kingdom), Fudan University (Shanghai, China), Peking University (Beijing, China), Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Wuhan, China), South China Normal University (Guangzhou, China), and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai, China). 4. Editorial Board Updates

In 2025, JEEA continued strengthening its editorial leadership, with 7 new experts joining the Editorial Board, and 21 early-career researchers appointed to the Youth Editorial Board. By the end of 2025, the Editorial Board included 63 members from 23 countries, reflecting the journal's strong commitment to international representation.

The 4th Editorial Board Meeting was held online in 2025. In addition, a Youth Editorial Board meeting and a small in-person meeting were organized to facilitate more focused discussion and collaboration.

5. Webinars and Expert Interviews

JEEA organized several international webinars in 2025 on key topics, including:

  • Advancing Exposomics in Population Health Research: Recent Insights and Developments, chaired by Prof. Ming Kei (Jake) CHUNG (The Chinese University of Hong Kong, China)
  • Exposure to Emerging Contaminants, chaired by Prof. Da Chen (Jinan University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China)
  • Exposure to Environmental Chemicals in Breast Milk and Infants: Pathways and Health Risks, chaired by Dr. Judy S. LaKind (University of Maryland School of Medicine, Catonsville, MD, USA)

These events attracted over 6,000 participants worldwide, providing an interactive forum for scholarly exchange. Recordings and further details are available on the journal website under the Webinars section.

JEEA also conducted interviews with leading experts, including Prof. Stephen H. Safe (Texas A&M University, TX, USA), Prof. Rainer Lohmann (The University of Rhode Island, RI, USA), and Dr. Hongxiu Liu (Hainan University, Haikou, China). Their insights enriched the journal's outreach and educational content.

6. Academic Conferences and Outreach

Conference outreach remained an important strategy for enhancing the visibility of JEEA. In 2025, Editorial Board members and academic representatives actively promoted JEEA at international and regional conferences throughout the year, including Prof. Da Chen, Prof. Xiaobo Yang, Prof. Wanli Ma, Dr. Chang He, Dr. Chong Liu, Dr. Zhanjian Chen, Dr. Suzhen Cao, Dr. Mingdan You, Dr. Hongli Tan, Dr. Zhiyuan Li, and Prof. Jianliang Zhao. Their efforts contributed significantly to expanding the journal's academic network and author community.
